The most popular and commonly sung song on Christmas, ‘Jingle Bells’ was actually written for thanksgiving by James Lord Peirpont in 1850. In September 1857, it was copyrighted and published under the title ‘One Horse Open Sleigh’ and later changed to ‘Jingle bells’. The song is said to be inspired by the sleigh races at Medford during the 19th Century.
