The entertainment world is following a very safe trend these days. You pick up a very popular and well read work of fiction and cinematise it.
Is this act of enacting the much contemplative work of an author justified? An author spends countless hours in taking inspiration and putting all the random thoughts in chronological order to make a mere writing readable and appealing. All of this is presented in camera shots in just three hours.
The question that comes to pass here is what happens to the work of words if the screen work is not powerfull enough of building the impact of thought evoked in the work of fiction. Some movies do more than just justice to the literary pieces, an epic example of which is 3 Idiots. The movie outshone the whole idea of Five Point Someone.
The latest movie ready for release on the same lines is Kai Po Che. It is adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s very popular work, The 3 Mistakes of my life. The complete idea of a novel conveyed in a movie, depends on a lot of factors. Beginning from what catches the eye first, the acting and the actors involved get the maximum feedback from audience. The star cast of Kai Po Che includes well groomed actors from daily soap industry for the first time on silver screen. Sushant Singh(Ishaan) is a popular actor from the serial Pavitra Rishta, Amit Sadh(Omi) was lost for quite some time from soap stories and now we know why, Raj Kumar Yadav(Govind) has always shown versatility in the most minor roles in which he has featured. All these three lead actors are promising stars from another daily entertainment world. It won’t be a flaw to expect great work from them, provided they don’t let us down from their major debut in bollywood. These actors have been associated with quintessential acting in the past.
The actor Amrita Puri from Aisha will be seen as the only lady in the lead. We know her acting, we remember Aisha because of her! Next stands the cinematography, which has been done by Anay Goswami. He is marvellous beginner in the field with several awards as recognition of his abundant talent-Won Star Entertainment Award for Best Cinematography for The Japanese Wife, Won Best Cinematography award in the ‘Emerging Filmmakers’ section at Cannes Film Festival for Chabiwali Pocket watch, Won Kodak Award (Asia Pacific region) for Chabiwali Pocket Watch. This calls for a promising cinematography from Kai Po Che. The screen play has been written by Abhishek Kapoor, Chetan Bhagat, Pubali Chaudhuri and Supratik Sen. Deepa Bhatia has worked on the editing of the movie. When Chetan Bhagat himself is involved, there can be very little scope of errors. But you never know!
The music being directed by Amit Trivedi with lyrics from Javed Akhtar, is anticipated to be valued by the hearing senses. The Rock On! director Abhishek Kapoor who reflected male bonding really well in Rock On!, has tried hands on the same again in Kai Po Che. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Sidhharth Roy Kapoor, the movie assures of a fine production. This team up of people with high potential from the industry sets the expectations high from the movie. But goes a well acclaimed saying, Actions speak louder than words! So the bang of novel needs to be seen in the action of the movie.
Touching all the sensitive topics of the time-cricket, religion, politics and business, the youth is expected to relate well to the movie. Without any fail the movie has to present even the minutest details of Govind opening up a new shop in the most dramatic manner with reality in backdrop. The novel, The 3 Mistakes of My life won rave reviews because of the mirror projection of life reflected through it. The same theme inevitably should run through the cinematic presentation of the same. If all goes well, then we can expect incessant accolades post release of Kai Po Che!
Well something marks a special mention here, “‘Kai Po Che’ selected to premier at the Berlin international film festival. Yea baby!!,” posted by Abhishek Kapoor on Twitter. The movie will be shown on February 7 at the film festival. So it needs to be seen whether the big actors from the industry who denied being a part of the movie will regret their decision or be happy! Let’s just wait for February 22, 2013 when it gets released and taste the flavor of The 3 Mistakes of My Life in Kai Po Che!!!
